I’m back from my whirlwind trip to Laurel, Mississippi to visit the set of HGTV’s Home Town and their charming town that plays the third character on the show! Before I arrived, I had heard from many people that Laurel was like the town of Stars Hollow from the hit TV show, Gilmore Girls. I laughed because I loved Gilmore Girls growing up and always dreamed of living in a small town where everyone knew everyone. The world seemed simpler, people kinder. That’s one of the reasons I was drawn to Home Town.
My love for small towns, restoration, renovation, interior decorating, and enjoying getting to know genuinely good people, drew me to the show and to Ben and Erin Napier. I reached out to Erin about helping her set up a fan group after her pilot episode aired and the rest is history. Soon, I was invited down to visit the set and see the town that I had heard so much about.
Before I headed out, I grabbed a copy of Erin and Ben’s Hometown list of places to visit while in town. The list is constantly updated. To view the entire list click here. I would have loved to make it to every location, but my time was limited. So, to the businesses I didn’t get to visit, please forgive me!
On my first full day in town, myself and the Community Manager for RTR Media visited the vendors that helped make the pilot episode a success by contributing their goods and services. I was incredibly honored to be invited along to meet the wonderful community that rallied behind Erin and Ben to help transform their town one house at a time.
First up on the list, Southern Antiques. It’s located at 317 Central Ave in downtown Laurel. Home Town collaborated with Southern Antiques to decorate the Tew house for their pilot episode and many of the homes for season one! to This store is so impressive and a must see!
It has over 10,000 square feet of amazing finds varying from candles to high end furniture. If you want to find local artwork, pottery, jewelry, leather clutches, etc. this is the shop for you! Everywhere you look, you’ll find statement pieces for any room. You could definitely spend a few hours walking through this shop and furnishing your whole home by the end. I went back twice because I wanted to see everything!
Next up on our stop, Goodness Gracious, located at 602 Carroll Gartin Blvd Laurel, MS. It’s no more than a few minutes from downtown. This shop is just stunning!
The staging and layout is fantastic! It’s a designer’s dream. I had to stop and take it all in. I wanted to buy everything in the shop! Goodness Gracious also collaborated with the show, providing decor seen on the pilot and season one.
Stop number 3, (not according to the list since many of the shops were not open on the day we were touring), Peddler’s Junktion, located at 604 Carroll Gartin Blvd. It’s just a few doors down from Goodness Gracious.
If you love a bargain, finding unique antiques, architectural salvage, and artisan wares, Peddler’s Junktion is the shop for you! They also collaborated with Home Town on decorating the homes seen on the show. I loved the thrill of the hunt as I combed through various booths.
Next on our tour, S.D. Bateman Fine Furnishings, located at 3217 Old Bay Springs Rd. Laurel, MS. If you are in the market for new furniture, look no further. S.D. Bateman carries the following furniture lines: Sherrill, Hickery-White, Hooker Furniture, Lexington Home Brands, Sam Moore, Furniture Classics, etc.
If you’re looking to customize your couch or chair, not a problem! Choose from hundreds of fabrics. I was really impressed how the store offers affordable, durable, high quality furniture. Many of the items in the store were featured on the pilot episode and season one.
Another stop that wasn’t on the list because the store just opened the week I was there, was Adam Trest Home. Click the link to see the full write up. Located downtown at 324 N Magnolia, this shop is one of my top picks! I went back several times. It specializes in custom furniture, custom upholstry pillows, pillows featuring town and college maps, stationary, candles, etc. Even though the store just opened, Adam’s pieces were seen on the pilot and will be featured in season one.
