My trip to Laurel was a whirlwind experience! I touched down and hit the ground running (more like walking briskly since I was 20 weeks pregnant). The CEO and Executive Producer of RTR Media took me under her wing when I was in town and gave me a tour of the homes that were being renovated for season one of HGTV’s Home Town.
I toured one of the houses that had just been revealed to the homeowners a few days prior to my arrival. I was really impressed with all of the renovations and restorations considering the budget and when I say budget, I’m not referring to a 100k budget. The show bases renovations on a realistic budget that many if not the majority of families in America are able to afford.
There were curtains and bedding from Anthropologie. The kitchen cabinets were resurfaced, original flooring, incredible lighting. Very much an affordable home to own and decorate. I can’t reveal too much or show pictures of the home until after the episode airs. So until then, there will be a cloak of mystery over all I write, haha!
I also walked by a home that was slated for reno later that week. It was unrecognizable. I’ll leave it at that, but I saw the potential! I actually grew up in a very similar style home, so despite it’s current state, I could see the vision for it and so could the homeowner. I got to talk with the homeowner a bit about their decision to buy the home, what they hoped Ben and Erin would salvage and what they hoped would be demoed.
Just a few days later, the house was under demo and it looked 100 times better from the outside. I took a tour inside and my jaw dropped. It was inhabitable with vegetation coming through the walls. To return the home to its former glory with modern updates will make it, in my opinion, one of the best renos on TV!
Since my visit, 8 weeks later the house was revealed and there were tears of joy! From what I’ve heard, the house is stunning! I’ll be waiting with baited breathe for this episode to air! I took so many pictures because I knew you wouldn’t believe it was the same house when Erin and Ben were done with it!
Check back for my next post about going on the set of a Home Town reveal!
